The Holyoke Council on Aging is a municipal department providing servicesClem_Kathy_Peggy_web

to enhance the lives of elders. We offer a variety of ongoing programs including:

 

  • Transportation
  • Health and wellness services
  • Recreational programs
  • Fitness classes
  • Health insurance counseling
  • Tax assistance
  • Meals

 

Our staff is also here to assist elders and their loved ones to navigate the often confusing elder service network. 

Our Senior Center and offices are located at 291 Pine Street (between Holyoke High School and CVS Pharmacy),

but we provide services in a variety of locations throughout the city.

We are open for business at 291 Pine Street.  Our hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.  Stop by and see us some time soon.

Thursday, January 10

 

9:30 AM    Painting Class with Anne Mueller.  Meets every Tuesday and Thursday.  $10 per class.

 

10:20 AM    Advanced Tai Chi. Take your practice to a deeper level with exploration of the fan and sword forms.

 

12:30 PM    Program:  Healthy Snacks with Nutritionist Ann Mahar.

Monday, January 14

 

1:30 PM    Writer's Group.  For anyone who loves the written word...

 

2:00 PM    Do you play an instrument?  Flute, trumpet, clarinet, sax...?   Come check out the Senior Concert Band.  Comprised of 40 musicians from Holyoke and neighboring communities, the band rehearses every Monday at 2:00 p.m.  All skill levels are welcome.  For more information, please call Clem Messier at 533-7080.

9:30 AM    Painting Class with Anne Mueller.  Meets every Tuesday and Thursday.  $10 per class.

 

12:15 PM    Movie:  The Thomas Crown Affair (1999)

 

1:00 PM    ZUMBA for Seniors!  Every Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.

 

 

Wednesday, January 16

 

9:00 AM    Needles and Hooks Club.  Bring you crochet or knitting projects, grab a cup of coffee, and enjoy some conversation while you work.

 

10:00 AM    Beginner Tai Chi / QiGong with Carol Clark.  Every Wednesday at 10:00 a.m.  Soft, slow, and graceful movements to relax the mind and body, loosen joints, and improve overall quality of life.  All postures and movements can be modified for each individual's comfort and benefit.

Ladies Billiards Class.  Wednesdays, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.  Four-week sessions beginning January 23.  Pre-registration is required and each session is limited to 3 participants.

City of Holyoke Services and Needs Assessment  (May 2008)

Concerned about the present and future needs of its older residents, the Holyoke Council on Aging hired researchers at the University of Connecticut Health Center, Center on Aging, to conduct a needs assessment to examine the experiences, expectations, satisfaction, and anticipated future needs with respect to services for older adults in the City of Holyoke.
